As
the smell of freshly baked bread and sweets drifts onto Ninth Avenue,
locals and tourists alike line up outside of the Hell’s Kitchen location
to sample one of the many treats for sale. An oasis in the heart of midtown,
Amy’s Bread is a cross between a Parisian boulangerie and a cozy Midwestern
kitchen. Everyone’s at home at Amy’s Bread.
The original location, at 672 Ninth Avenue opened in 1992, seats twelve
and is open Monday-Saturday until 11PM, and Sundays until 6PM. Of course
you should come for the bread—try Amy’s signature Semolina with Golden
Raisins and Fennel, the beautiful Picholine Green Olive, our rustic 100%
organic breads, or just a simple, but outstanding French Baguette. Feasibly,
one could eat three meals a day and have snacks in between, and quite
a few regulars do! Start with a scone, muffin or sticky bun and coffee
for breakfast. Enjoy our sandwiches -- many of them are grilled -- then
a wonderful cookie, bar, or brownie for lunch. Finish off the day with
one of our evening sandwiches and a slice of our old-fashioned layer cake.
